saturday night movies
there is nothing that makes me more happy on a saturday night than curling up and watching a great movie. i think kyle and i should buy stock in netflix and redbox, actually, that'd be a smart move in my opinion.
that's a lie, actually, if it's storming outside, that makes it even better. in fact, we're watching a movie right now with thunder in the background (and we really need the rain).
speaking of rain, here's a little tidbit from one my all time favorite movies. pride and prejudice is AMAZING. all of the version are. but this one has keira knightley in it and i adore her.
happy weekend, everyone!

it's march!
i feel like that should actually say...'IT'S FINALLY FREAKING MARCH!"
because, YAY!!!! it's finally freaking March!
March is the start of all things holy and great in this household. it is honestly one of my all time favorite months. ever.
1. Spring - a two edged sword for anyone with allergies, yes, but i happen to live in a wonderful state that has (say it with me, guys) FOUR. FULL. SEASONS. if i lived where there was no seasons, i'd go postal. wait, i don't think it's called going postal if it's a depression about the seasons. i actually learned this in college, i'm pretty sure...i think it's called Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) well, lookie there! i was right! and you all thought that a B.S. in Interior Design was really a just a B.S. in Bull Shitting. it ain't. i learned me some right good stuff in that thar place.
what was i saying?
oh, yeah. i don't really like Spring, other than it's almost Summer. which means it's almost tomato season, waterski season, and it doesn't get dark at 5 pm. but i do get to start planting things outside soon. i guess what i'm saying is, with the exception of my allergies, Spring isn't really all that bad. she's just a little temptress that is the greatness of Summer, but let's be honest, they pale in comparison to Fall.
2. St. Patty's Day - i might not be full-blooded Irish, but i've got a bit 'o the luck in me. i'd say my brother and i are about 1/6th Irish if my calculations are correct (you shouldn't trust those...i'm horrible at math.) so i fully enjoy St. Patty's Day.
in a former life {ahem, college} i used to enjoy Fake Patty's Day, a wonderful and gloriousKansas State Aggieville tradition. i partook in this awesome holiday a few times, but alas, i have decided that 27 is far too old to partake in the drinking of green beer at 6 in the mornin'. my liver just can't take it anymore.
and i'd rather have bacon.
side note: how sad is it that the only "source" i could find for Fake Patty's Day is from urbandictionary.com? get with it Aggieville.
be that as it may, i fully plan on enjoying a good lager and wearing green on one of my favorite holidays.
3. Kyle's birthday! - he's turning 29 this year...the women of our normal "crew" are hoping to get some parties together for their 30th birthday, as all the husbands turn 30 in the same year. so this just might be the year to have a nice stay-in party of two birthday. we'll see what the birthday boy thinks!
4. March Madness - love me some college basketball. especially when Kansas State is on a winning streak.
eat it, Texas.
i saw this awesome quote on Twitter earlier..."VarneysKSU There used to be a street named after Frank Martin, but it was changed because nobody crosses Frank Martin and lives. #FrankMartin"

honeymoon roadtrip: day 7
after a exhausting day at the grand canyon, we rested quite a bit on day 7. i think we slept until like ten or something.
i know, sorry, we are boring like that sometimes.
we actually got to sleep in a little. (HALLELUJAH!) side note: i just spelled hallelujah right on the first try. i'm awesome.
the night of day 6, we looked around on the interwebs for stuff to do in little ol' flagstaff. and i stumbled upon the Riordan Mansion. the Riordan Mansion is a Arts and Crafts style duplex (don't let that scare you, this house is over 13,000 square feet, each brother had over 6,000 square feet at their disposal) home, built by two brothers who essentially started the logging business in Flagstaff.
and being the architectural nerd that i am, i told kyle that is where we would be going the next day.
naturally, he was thrilled. :)
here are some shots of the interior of the home. sorry in advance, you have to know that interior designers see the world much differently...and therefore the majority of my favorite pictures are just small details in the woodworking and such....
fantastical wood beam ceilings.
oh, and after the house tour, we went thrifting and antiquing around town. we didn't buy much. the prices were A LOT higher than the Santa Fe shops. but, it was still a blast.
after a little shopping, we drove to Prescott Valley by way of Sedona.
let's pause and reflect on how gorgeous Sedona is....
okay, i'm done. because Sedona is redic expensive. we walked around the main drag just long enough to walk up one side and down the other. we squeezed another penny (did i mention that? we started a squashed penny book. maybe if you're lucky i'll show it to you sometime....maybe) and after quickly getting shot down on the Pink Jeep Tours, we made our merry little way to a much cheaper and only slightly less pretty town called Prescott Valley.
along the way, we ran into a town called Jasper. Jasper is literally on the side of a mountain. not. kidding.
my mom would hate it there. she has an intense hatred of heights. you should have seen her when we went to Pike Peak....LOVE YOU, MOM!
but i loved it. it was a quirky little village and seemed to be a bit of an artist's community. don't quote me on that. we didn't actually stop.
we were worried the car wouldn't make it up the mountain if we stopped.
i kid, i kid.
what was i talking about? oh, yeah, Jasper. here's some pictures:
and then we saw a gorgeous sunset:
and then we ate more Mexican food. are you surprised?
probably not.
also of note: our hotel in Prescott Valley was by far the best hotel we stayed in. it had a wonderfully comfortable bed and i feel asleep instantly. sigh....i miss that bed.

this was a vertical flat file (for storing large architectural drawings) and pulled out from the wall. the wood carvings were amazing and the thing was MASSIVE. about 6' wide. i NEEEED one of these!
proof we were actually there.
the light fixtures were exquisite. this was one of my favorites.
more drool-worthy built ins. they were all over the house.
fantastical wood beam ceilings.
and THAT is the story of how i convinced kyle we will one day build an Arts and Craft style home. in the country. on many acres. with a barn.
amen.

proof we were actually in sedona. i wore a lovely knit scarf i bought from a little Nepalese man in Santa Fe. i wear it a lot. just ask my coworkers. :)

tonights gonna be a good night...
well, it better be. someone owes me something for the crappy day i've had.
i'm not even going to get into it, but i had a crap morning at work. not really going to go into any details, i don't want anything to get back to the powers that be. i got annoyed at a coworker (i'm sure he noticed, i'm pretty sure i was literally shaking with anger) and i had an issue with one of my products in a building that's under construction. which i didn't get to deal with because i was dealing with the aforementioned coworker's problem. ugh.
so, anyways, i had a crappy day.
luckily, while g-chatting it up with my one of my bridesmaids, kara, she mentioned a little bridal shop that some of her friends got their dresses at in macpherson. i looked it up online and it carries not one but TWO of my favorite dress designers! i. am. super. pumped. i'm going on saturday to try some on. i'm kind of getting down to the point where i need to order it already or i'm going to have to get it rush shipped. the designers are mori lee and maggie sottero. if anyone feel like being girly, i'm taking suggestions on which ones to try on. i have a list a mile long, because i LOOOOOOOVE both designers (i have to admit...maggie is the overall winner...) and didn't get to try very many sottero dresses on at the one place in wichita that carries them, they didn't have the whole line there. i'm hoping this place has some more!
in addition to that, when i got home i got the baker's twine i ordered on saturday! how's THAT for fast shipping! jeez, i haven't even gotten my wedding shoes that i ordered last thursday! (i may or may not have ordered those because they have the name katie in them. and of course because they are red. it's possible.) i'm going to use the twine for some wedding stuff...can't wait to show you guys!
this was probably the most boring post you've ever read. no? thanks for listening to be bitch and moan. :)

well TECHNICALLY...
it's friday! so i'm doing my random friday a little early. :)
i went and did my shopping today. you all know how much i love target. and coupons. i was told (this is not the first time) that i was a "coupon lady" and that i was "awesome at shopping." i like to hear that. i kind of view couponing as a competition to see how much money i can save myself each week. i saved almost 75% off my entire cart! considering i got a cute sweater for almost full price. (don't tell kyle that one...)
dillons and walgreens on the other hand...not so great to coupon at. i ALWAYS have troubles there! i think it's just the ones i shop at, because kyle's mom always does well at walgreens. maybe i shouldn't go to the one i go to anymore. plus, my dillon's kind of scares me, there are some interesting characters there! there is a dillon's marketplace up at central and rock that i LOVE to go into. it's like walmart only clean and has a way better organic section.

-----------------------------------------
know what else i'm loving? not getting up on the roof. (i just had to add that in there.)
-----------------------------------------
i really need to clean my house. or maybe it should just clean itself. i'm just saying.
-----------------------------------------
i just painted my toenails a lovely shade of dark plum. yummy, they look good enough to eat!
-----------------------------------------
has anyone seen the proposal? i really want to see it. i adore ryan reynolds. i also really want to see the new george clooney movie! i can't remember the name right now, but it looks freaking hilarious. who knew such a gorgeous man would be such a comedic genius? kyle and i are huge fans of o brother where art thou. he got me hooked on it.
-----------------------------------------
finally...i leave you when another hint to my halloween costume!

i actually WON something!
i NEVER win!
like ever. you know, in like drawings and stuff.
'cause i win fights with kyle all the time. hehe.
but, alas, i did win something for once. fantabulously frugal had a 31 days of giveaways on her site. which i love. because i'm a cheapskate and i have a cheapskate boyfriend, and she always posts about the most awesomest deals and stuff.
but that's neither here nor there.
she had some really awesome stuff and i entered nearly every.single.drawing. because i totally wanted it all.
and i won the very LAST drawing she had!
a dvd of the slumdog millionaire.
YESSSS....i rule.
that's all i really wanted to say. and i'm working on my 100th post, so watch out bloggy world, catie's coming!

a new record!
it's my second post in one day! haha. i thought the other one should be by itself and i wanted to just chat the chit with everyone, as logun would say.
yesterday was an awesome day for SO many reasons...
1. a rep [someone that comes and tells us about a product to use in interior design applications...example: knoll furniture or maharam fabrics] brought us starbucks...a total guilty pleasure of mine that i've told myself i'm not allowed to drink anymore [well...i'm not buying it anymore, people are more than welcome to buy it for me!]
2. i found out that a conversation i overheard at work had nothing to do with me and in fact had to do with another ID girl moving to the KC office. whew...i was worried was doing a shit job or something.
3. i got home from work and my AWESOME new phone was there!! i also got my rent.com visa [if you rent a place in wichita, it's the best thing to do...you find a place on there, tell your landlord you found them on there and you get a $100 visa gift card! you can use it ANYWHERE!]
4. jules and i went shopping at target and i got to USE my new visa gift card.
5. we also went to the seamstress to get our pants hemmed. i'd never done that before, kind of fun to stand like you are a princess in front of a mirror.
6. then we took the dogs to the dog park and played fetch for a long time, long enough to wear my two out anyway!
it's always the simple things in life that make you happy.
:)
