vacation = cheating on my blog

so read this instead...

20 years ago I was:

1. 4 years old
2. getting ready for my little brother's first fourth of july and his first birthday. (in august).
3. allowed to light some of my own fireworks for the first time.

10 years ago I was:
1. 14 years old. meaning i was awkward.
2. was 5'6" and weight 90 pounds. gross, i know.
3. getting ready for freshmen year of high school.

5 years ago I was:
1. at home for the summer in between freshman and sophomore year of college (the only summer i went home.)
2. missing my boyfriend. a lot.
3. dating the same man i am today. :)

3 years ago I was:
1. contemplating if i wanted to stay in school for interior design.
2. working well over 60 hours a week in order to keep myself (and my dog) fed. i was teaching summer school, lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons and volunteering at boys & girls club.
3. living with my boyfriend and his roommate, luke. (i miss those days...)

1 year ago I was:
1. on family vacation at table rock...where i am right now.
2. entertaining kyle (my boyfriend) and ty (my guy friend) during my family vacation. long story, but ty ended up coming down with us. he loved it.
3. getting ready to go into my last year of college, WITHOUT an internship and gaining even more valuable knowledge working at the BGC than any internship could have given me. it was the best job. ever.

So far this year:
1. i have interviewed at TWELVE different firms.
2. received an offer at two of them and accepted one of them.
3. moved to wichita. who'da thunk that would have happened?!? not this chick.

Yesterday:
1. mom and i unpacked my house.
2. then we drove to the lake house.
3. i started a new book. it's a mystery and right now i can't remember the name of the author but i'll let you know if it's good or not. my mom bought it for me. if you like mary higgins clark, you're a fan of what we read. :)

Today:
1. i went antiquing with my mom. (i got an amazing dresser for only FIFTY dollars that i'm going to refinish.)
2. drooled over a hoosier cabinet that i REALLY, REALLY want to buy. but it's $250.
3. swam with my dog in our cove.

Tomorrow:
1. will probably go out in the boat....
2. and ski and wakeboard....
3. and drink beer with the parentals!

In the next year I will:
1. will start my new job.
2. and hopefully like it a lot.
3. will probably be deciding if it's time to move and be with my DO (designated other) for good. actually, he'll have to decide what he's going to do before i decide a damn thing.

And I tag: anyone who wants it. :)

greening my life.

i've always considered myself to be somewhat of an environmentalist. i'm not sure where i got this, maybe it was from my teachers when i was younger and learning all about Earth Day and things of that. or maybe it's that my friend's parents when i was younger were all hippies and they lived their lives somewhat "green". or at least, green for that time period. now that i'm older and i still feel the need to protect my planet, i (and possibly my friends and family) realize that this is not a phase that i'm going through, and i actually do care. either way, i signed up for this weight loss website a few weeks ago in some desperate attempt to restrict my diet by having to log it every day. (actually, it's working quite well, i've lost a few pounds because i don't want to eat things that are bad and have to log them and see how many calories are in them...lol.) ANYWAY, this morning i received my daily email from SparkPeople and it was titled "8 Ways to 'Green' Your Kitchen". so i open it out of curiousity, and saying to myself, "right, like they can tell ME ways to green my kitchen. i know everything about it already." and i was very surprised how informative i found the article! just goes to show that no matter how smart you are and how much you think you know about a subject, you can ALWAYS learn more!

if you are interested, here's a link to the website and article. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=928

also, i've read a few books that are along these same lines (greening your life). so if you are interested, here are a few titles to dig around your local bookstore for...
biomimicry - all about how Nature got it right the first time and humans should follow in Her footsteps. and if you are a die-hard state of Kansas fan, most of it is about research done by a professor at Bethel College (Newton, KS)
cradle to cradle: remaking the way we make things - this book has LOADS of info, but it is pretty dry in some spots. william mcdonough doesn't seem to have much of a knack for writing in a "fun" way. BONUS - the book is made of plastic, and they explain why in the first chapter (titled 'this book is not a tree'). so if you are like me and like to enjoy a book whilst in the bathtub, the book is completely waterproof. :)
the sustainability revolution - an interesting look into how sustainability has always been around and is not a "new fad" like everyone thinks.

i love target

really, i do. i could shop there for HOURS on end! although today when i went, it was for specific stuff and i was on my lunch break, so it went quickly. my money went quickly, too! i was shopping for stuff for my new apartment. because, of COURSE, nothing of my old stuff will fit right in most places. actually, the only thing that i had to buy new was bathroom stuff. i also bought a message center for right when i walk in, mainly because i can hang my keys on it! haha. if you know me, you know i can never find my keys!!

here's the bath set i got. i LOVE it!

this is the shower curtain. obviously.

this is the awesome yellow rug i got.

and here is the black and chrome set that i got to go with it!
